THE MEANING BEHIND...Animal Farm tells the story of how animals overthrow their human masters in an attempt to set up a fairer society. But behind this simple farmyard tale lies a fierce analysis and satire of the abuse of political power that George Orwell intends to portray. (Mahoney, 1994)
George Orwell wrote Animal Farm to criticize the communist regime he saw sweeping through Russia and spreading across Europe. In addition, the novel resembles the forming of the Soviet Union, and exhibits the anatomy of all political revolutions, where the idea of justice, equality and fraternity eventually shatter during the progress. (Opalinska, 1997) |
